Smudging Circle with the Mississaugas of New Credit First Nation

The Mississaugas of New Credit First Nations were the first indigenous peoples to inhabit the land where the City of Toronto is now located.
Regent Park School of Music Choir

Regent Park School of Music is one of Toronto's foremost independent non-profit community music school with a mandate to provide a safe and secure environment where inner-city young people can participate in an affordable after-school music program.
The discipline of music education provides multiple benefits to young students. The music school has an open door, first come first serve policy. It works closely with professional music faculty, who provide their services at discounted rates, to provide students with quality musical instruction at a cost that meets their very limited resources.

The Toronto Beaches Children's Chorus

Nathan Phillips Square Stage – 1:15 p.m.
The Toronto Beaches Children's Chorus was founded in 2006. The choir provides both vocal and dramatic training, in a fun and relaxed environment. The children learn a variety of music from all different genres, and enjoy bi-weekly drama classes with actor Joanne Mitchell. Their mandate is to provide excellent choral and vocal training in a non competitive setting and to enhance overall stage presence and ability through drama sessions.
St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School Choir
Director: Margaret Janus
Nathan Phillips Square – 1:30 to 1:45 p.m.
This school choir features students from grades 5-8 and 5 Orff players (a range of percussion instruments such as the metallophone and the xylophone). There will be student participants from St. Anthony's School as well.
St. Vincent de Paul was the Garfield Weston Award Winner in 2008. They are a finalist again this year. St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School has been chosen for recognition at the 2009 Garfield Weston Awards for Excellence in Education. St. Vincent de Paul is recognized as a school of distinction in the "Improvement in Academics" category.

Historical Re-enactment by The Queen’s Own Rifles
Nathan Phillips Square Stage – 4:30 p.m.
Toronto’s oldest regiment will re-enact a “Skirmish”. Historically, before an area was occupied by a military force, it needed to be checked to ensure it was safe and free of the enemy. This process is referred to as “securing the area”.
The Skirmishers, armed with historical rifles, and the Pioneers, who carry axes, move into the area to be cleared. They then proceed with a search of the area. Members of The Queen’s Own Rifles will also stand guard in historic uniform at the Hall of Memories which will be open from 5 - 9 p.m. in honour of the city’s birthday.

Join us for our regular afternoon skate from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Nathan Phillips Square's famous outdoor rink. At 5 p.m., put on your skates for Virgin 999's Ice Skating Party hosted by Maura, of The Maura Show.

Skaters can glide to contemporary chart toppers or keep warm rinkside with a hot chocolate provided by Enbridge Gas Distribution. Skate rentals and indoor change rooms are available to visitors. Please note that all children under age 6 need a CSA approved helmet before going on the ice.
