These will be distributed inside the new 2012/13 Collection Calendars that will be distributed to residential curbside customers over the month of August 2012. One e-waste bag will be provided in the calendar and when that bag is used, any future items should be placed out as stated about in "How to set out". After August, additional e-waste bags will only be available at Environment Day events or at Solid Waste Depots for pick-up. The bags are free of charge.

When the designated truck comes to pick up your unwanted electronics, it will also take away the E-waste bag or cardboard box and recycle them. The plastic bag is fully recyclable.

Is this program mandatory?
No. However, it will help you reduce the amount of waste you are generating, which affects your Solid Waste User fees. It's the City's goal to achieve 70% waste diversion and this is a program aimed at keeping electronic waste out of landfill sites and either recycled or safely disposed of.

Using your new E-waste Bags
When should I use the green E-waste bag?
You can use the e-waste bag as soon as you receive it, if you have small electronic items to dispose of such as: cell phones, telephones and accessories, radios, cameras, pagers, video recorders, personal hand-held computers, computer cables and mice. (Refer to your collection calendar for details).
It is recommend that you wait until you have accumulated a few smaller items and then place them out together once a year on garbage day using the E-waste bag. A new E-Waste bag will be supplied every year with your collection calendar.
What items go in the Green E-waste Bags?
Small electronic items such as: telephones and accessories, mouse(s), cell phones, radios, cameras, MP3 players, video recorders, and computer cables and mice. Please remove all batteries and dispose of batteries at HHW depots. Refer to your waste collection calendar for more details.
I used my E-waste bag, where can I get another one?
Free additional E-waste bags will be available at the City of Toronto, Community Environment Days if you wish to pick one up. Refer to your collection calendar or www.toronto.ca/garbage for a listing of Environment Days. Open containers and clear plastic bags will also work as collection containers.

How do I put out larger items such as computers and monitors that will not fit into the E-waste bag?
Place larger electronic items beside your garbage bin for collection. A different style of truck from your regular garbage truck will pick up all electronics for either recycling or safe disposal. Always keep weather conditions in mind when placing items out for collection. In winter storms, we ask that you hold onto items until it's clear of snow and ice.
Where are the electronics items taken after collection?
All of the electronics items collected are taken to a City warehouse. They are packaged for shipping to OES approved processors and recyclers for recycling and safe, secure disposal of any potentially hazardous content.
