Living or deceased pets - animal surrender

Animal Services accepts both living and deceased pets. Animals can be brought/surrendered to one of the Animal Centres 7 days per week during operational hours. Pet owners will need to contact their local Animal Centre to book an appointment (date & time).

Animal Services does not provide a pick-up service for deceased pets.It is mandatory that all owners surrendering their animal to Toronto Animal Services provide proper identification stating their name and current address. If a person acting on behalf of the owner surrenders the animal, written documentation must be presented to Animal Services to verify their authority to act on behalf of the owner.

Animal surrender fees (at a Toronto Animal Services shelter) will apply and is payable at the Animal Centre.

If you have disposed of your dog or cat yourself and your pet was registered and licensed, please contact the licensing office to advise of the death of your pet.
