* * Council Approves More Affordable Housing *
* *

City Council has approved three developments that will provide 68 supportive or transitional affordable housing units and transitional housing projects very low income/no income individuals and families who have experienced homelessness, or are at risk of homelessness.

Selected through an RFP process, much of the $11.8 million in funding for the developments comes through the federal government’s Homelessness Partnership Initiative. The developments are located at 1355 King Street West, 650 Queen Street East and 1908 Gerrard St. East.

The federal funding is supplemented by City waivers of development charges, fee and permit exemptions for non-profit groups, property tax exemptions, federal capital funding provided as a grant by way of a forgivable loan, and funding for technical expertise to achieve energy efficiency measures outlined in the Toronto Green Development Standard.
