YWCA Toronto's new Elm Centre, providing affordable homes in the heart of Toronto, has been officially opened by YWCA staff and donors, Elm Centre residents and officials from three governments.
The $80 million Centre is the largest affordable housing building constructed in Canada in the last decade. It received by $36.7 million in financial support from the federal, provincial governments and the City of Toronto.
It offers 300 affordable homes to single low-income women, women with children, women living with mental health and addiction issues and families of Aboriginal ancestry. More than $15 million has been raised by YWCA Toronto to help build the Elm Centre.
