In the 19th century, before the invention of the automobile, railways were lifelines linking small communities and big cities alike. The Northern Railway of Canada linked Toronto with other Ontario towns as far away as Collingwood, Hunstville, and North Bay. These photographs document the company's holdings circa 1858, including passenger stations, steam engines, and railway bridges. Series 575.
