This collection includes a wide variety of materials relating to the life of Samuel Titchener Smith (1885-1980). A teacher of ballet and ballroom dancing in Toronto from 1910 to 1942, he was in 1932 elected president of Dancing Masters of America. He was also active in community service and politics.
Highlights of the donation include autographed photographs of Titchener Smith's students, many of whom went on to professional dancing careers; and menus, photographs, and guides to tourist attractions acquired while cruising aboard on the S. S. Empress of Britain and the Empress of Australia.
This donation also includes correspondence, family photographs, certificates, pamphlets, news clippings, and trade publications about his dance-related activities, his travels, his involvement with the Shriners, and his political career. Fonds 90.
