Girls' play period, Victoria Park Forest School, Queen Street East/Nursewood Road Victoria Park (1912-32) was one of two experimental "forest schools" operated by the Board of Education. Aimed at "anaemic, delicate, and under-privileged children," these schools proposed that a child's mental, moral, and physical development could be improved by a combination of fresh air, wholesome food, and daily medical inspection. The curriculum at Toronto's forest schools was structured around frequent play periods. Pupils were expected to attend during the summer holidays. |
