Robert Bateman Mural Wall at Duplex Park

Location: Duplex Park, southeast of Lawrence Ave. East and Yonge St.
Ward: 16
Year Completed: Ongoing since 2008

Project Description: A concrete retaining wall in Duplex Parkette was painted to cover graffiti tags. Starting in 2008, winning artwork from the Robert Bateman "Get to Know" contest has been selected, recreated at a larger scale and installed along the wall.  Five murals have now been installed and vines have been planted between them to frame the murals and cover the rest of the wall.

Project Partners:

  • Glenview Public School
  • Robert Bateman “Get to Know” Writing & Art Contest
  • Toronto Police Service
  • North Toronto Green Community
  • Parks, Forestry & Recreation

Impact: The creation of the mural wall sends a message to taggers that their activities are not tolerated by the community. The wall also provides the opportunity for the City to expand its relationship with the Robert Bateman “Get to Know” program which inspires youth to get to know wildlife better
