On July 26, Toronto City Council paid tribute to the finalists of the 2006 Toronto Book Awards. Mayor David Miller presented each of the authors with a commemorative scroll. The winner will be announced on September 6.

Finalists unable to attend were Howard Akler, the author of The City Man (Coach House Books), and M.G. Vassanji, the author of When She Was Queen (Doubleday Canada).
