Benefits to being a member of the Bicycle User Group Network
Staying informed
Subscribing to the Bicycle User Group Network makes it easier to take advantage of City programs and City Services. Bicycle User Group members may receive notices regarding cycling-related public consultation sessions, important project announcements, or events. Bicycle User Groups may specify the degree to which they are contacted with information and updates.
Access to maps, brochures and resources
The City of Toronto publishes communication pieces concerning cycling. Topics may range from bicycle safety and proper cycling techniques, to Bikeway Network updates to the popular City of Toronto Cycling Map. These items are available upon request to any member of the public. If you intend to order a large volume of materials on an ongoing basis, it is helpful for you to register themselves as Bicycle User Groups, as it facilitates our tracking distributed materials.
Unity
A group can often achieve more than an individual. Gathering together a group of cyclists is the first step towards organising, whether it's for a group ride, or advocating around concerns the group shares. Using the 'Bicycle User Group concept may act as a platform to help unite cyclists who have similar interests or concerns.
Bring attention to cycling issues
Joining the Bicycle User Group Network is a good way to let the City of Toronto know about cyclists in the City's Wards.
In some cases, opponents of cycling may say that cycling issues should not be addressed, because "there are no cyclists in that neighborhood". This statement is generally speaking not correct. Most wards in Toronto already have at least one Bicycle User Group registered.
