City receives Spirit of Diversity Award
COSTI Immigrant Services formally recognised Children’s Services for its willingness to support work experience for newcomers in its child care centres. Each year, a number of new Canadians are given the opportunity to be placed at a City-operated child care centre to learn about working in the field of early learning and care. These placements have been so successful that some volunteers were subsequently hired as child care assistants, food service workers, or are providing child care in their own home under contract to Toronto Home Child Care.

“Toronto Children’s Services has made a commitment to embracing diversity,” said Elizabeth Moffat, Director, Municipal Child Care Services. “Many of our staff are immigrant women themselves so they really understand the needs of newcomers.” children playing with caregiver

Children's Services plans and manages a broad range of child care services including centre-based and home child care, family resource programs, resourcing for children with special needs, before-and after-school programs and summer day programs. COSTI is a community-based multicultural agency, providing employment, educational, settlement and social services to all immigrant communities and individuals in need of assistance.
