*Low-income cutoff (LICO) is a measure used by Statistics Canada that identifies low-income families as those who spend a significantly higher proportion of their income on food, shelter and clothing than an average Canadian family of comparable size and community of residence.
Family income is the sum of the total before tax incomes of all members of the census family.
