Keeping our streets safe

In the short history of CityWatch, several groups of municipal workers have already been recognized through the program for their timely, cautious intervention.

Where there is smoke, there's fire

CityWatch formally thanked Neil Campbell of Facilities Operations in the City's Corporate Services department for having investigated andNeil Campbell with his CityWatch award. raised the alarm when he smelled smoke in a St. Lawrence Market building during the power blackout on August 14, 2003.

Neil's intervention probably saved St. Lawrence Hall and other buildings in the market complex, because firefighters found a small fire burning in the restaurant and discovered that gas stoves had been left turned on by mistake when the business closed early because of the power blackout. The danger of an explosion was high, but the situation was successfully resolved.
