Project Desctiption: This joint project by seven City of Toronto services and programs reached 78 youth in each of our 13 priority neighbourhoods in 2007. In 2008, participation increased to over 100 youth.

Teams of seven designed, undertook and documented activities such as planting and maintaining a community garden, graffiti removal, creation of outdoor art, and area clean-up.

Upon completion, each team made a presentation to their peers and then select two projects amongst themselves to receive additional funding towards future projects.

Project Partners:

  • Social Development, Finance & Administration – Community Safety
  • Secretariat & Community Resources Toronto Culture
  • Toronto Parks, Forestry & Recreation
  • Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC)
  • Evergreen
  • Toronto Police Service (TPS)

Impact: This project engaged youth to clean and beautify Toronto while developing practical skills in gardening, painting, communication and teamwork. It improved neighbourhoods by creating a shared vision, shared hope and shared pride and left a tangible mark on each of the 13 communities.
