This roundtable's mandate includes issues which were addressed by Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual and Transgendered Issues Committee and the Race and Ethnic Relations Committee.
Purpose
To advise the Mayor and City Council on the elimination of the barriers faced by human rights protected groups and to ensure that the contributions, interests and needs of all sectors of Toronto's diverse population are reflected in the City's mission, operations and service delivery.
Composition and Membership
The roundtable will be composed of up to 20 members, including the Mayor and up to three members of Council. The remaining members will be community members representative of the experience and expertise of individual residents and voluntary organizations. The membership should reflect the diversity of Toronto's population.
Term
The roundtable will be established for the 2003-2006 term of Council and will conclude at the end of that term.
Role and Procedures
Without limiting the range of issues on which to advise the Mayor and Council, the roundtable will advise on strategies and actions required to achieve the City's access, equity and human rights objectives as stated and approved by Council including those in the Report of the Task Force on Community Access and Equity (1999) and the Plan of Action for the Elimination of Racism and Discrimination (2003).
Projects
Toronto City Council asked the Roundtable to provide advice on a number of issues. An update of the Roundtable's work was provided to Council in early 2006. A further Progress Report has been submitted to Policy and Finance Committee - HTML report or PDF report (23 Kb).
