Employment opportunities
Youth from the Flemingdon Park neighbourhood are receiving employment opportunities thanks to Foresters Pre-Employment Youth Program. Several initiatives have been launched as part of this initiative, including an internship program as well as investment in Flemo City Radio.

Foresters Pre-Employment Youth Program is in support of the youth opportunity pillar, one of the four pillars of Toronto's Community Safety Plan.

Foresters has created six paid internship placements for a period of four months each, enabling Flemingdon Park youth to gain job experience and training in a variety of roles at the head office of the international life insurance organization. The internships will be staggered in two placements at a time. Launched in August 2006, the placements will commence every four months into 2007.

Support for Flemo City Radio
Youth participating in the program are learning about radio broadcasting that will assist them to develop transferable skills that will create opportunities for future success.

Flemo City Radio has developed over the last few years with the support of the Ontario Science Centre and will continue to support the development of the radio station by providing equipment, recording facilities and technical support.

Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation will provide space at the Flemingdon Resource Centre for the live broadcasts.

While Flemo City Radio is still in development, Foresters investment in the radio station will allow these young community leaders to purchase their own equipment, pay for honoraria for 14 youth and expand and enhance Flemo City Radio.

In collaboration with the City of Toronto, Foresters will further expand support to youth-led initiatives in the community.
