Composting, yard waste and lawns
Let's talk organics
Compost, yard waste and lawns are all organic substances, and they all factor "organically" into the city's waste reduction program. Examples of organics include the grass on your lawn, tree leaves, plant roots, stems, blooms and leaves from your garden flowers, fruit or vegetable plantings, hedge or shrub trimmings, and compost itself.

What you and your contracted service provider need to know about yard waste collection
The City asks you to pay close attention to your local collection calendar, which clearly states when your household receives its bi-weekly yard waste collection service. There are rules for when containers/bags may be put at the curb and failure to comply with the bylaw could result in a fine. Important instructions to remember.
Free compost
Free compost can be picked up at Leaf Compost Depots and a Comunnity Environment Day event. Limit of one cubic metre per household, bring your own container.
Leaf and yard waste collection
Collection is picked up every other week, on garbage collection day, from mid-March into December.
