First elected to Toronto City Council in 2000, Suzan Hall has actively represented the residents of the area and consistently achieved results for her Ward.
The past six-years have seen the building of a new police station in the Ward for 23 Division that will make the area safer and bring the police closer to the community. A $9 million legacy of investments in parks and community centres will improve the quality of life for residents for years to come.
By fighting to retain contracted garbage collection service, Suzan helped save taxpayers $20 million. Suzan's annual cleanups of local ravines and efforts to protect trees threatened by the Asian Long-Horned Beetle helped beautify the area and maintain our environmental heritage. Suzan worked with local businesses to establish a Business Improvement Area at Albion and Islington that is a first for north Etobicoke. The North Etobicoke Revitalization Project (NERP) that Suzan founded is linking residents and employers to provide job opportunities where people live. As a result of her involvement in the Culture & Recreation group of NERP she was invited to become a member of Arts Etobicoke. Suzan has also been a strong advocate for the arts at Toronto City Council.
Prior to her election to City Council, Suzan represented the community as the area's school trustee from 1984 to 2000. As a leader in the education community, Suzan served as Chair of the Etobicoke Board of Education and Vice-chair of the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). During her tenure, Suzan led the way in developing the first Race Relations policy for the Etobicoke Board and promoted the expansion and building of new schools in north Etobicoke. She was Chair of the Board when the Humberwood Centre was conceived and oversaw the construction of North Kipling Junior Middle School including the addition of a multi-purpose room and seniors rooms to the North Kipling Community Centre.
Suzan has been active in the community for decades as a parent, volunteer and community activist. Suzan was instrumental in obtaining Thistletown Multi-Service Centre (TMSC) for the community and has been active on the board of the TMSC for over 20 years as Chair and Vice-Chair. She is on the executive committee for the Church of Saint Paul The Apostle and is Chair of the First Stage Child Care Centre Board. Suzan is active in many organizations that address the needs of the community.
Suzan has been honoured to represent the residents of Ward 1 and is pleased to have received a renewed mandate from her constituents.
