| Profile |
| Representing downtown Toronto since 1991, Kyle has been a strong advocate of revitalizing the residential heart of this City, while ensuring its economic and cultural opportunities are enhanced. Kyle helped to locate Buddies in Bad Time Theatre in its home at 12 Alexander St.; championed the redevelopment of Yonge and Dundas; and in 2006, helped launch Nuit Blanche, an annual "sunrise to sunset" celebration of contemporary art.
As Chair of the Economic Development and Culture Committee, Kyle brings his signature hard working commitment to promoting Toronto's investment opportunities internationally, vigorously identifying and enhancing the competitive advantages of Toronto's burgeoning creative industry sector. As City Councillor for Ward 27, Kyle has promoted intensification with high quality point towers, creating opportunities for better urban design.
Earlier this year, Kyle spearheaded the development of a Tax Incentive Equivalency Grant Program for industrial and innovation projects. As well, he served in a leadership role in developing the city's "Prosperity Agenda" and is currently promoting the Toronto's investment opportunities internationally.
As one of Canada's principle gay rights advocates, Councillor Rae is the City's lead contact on queer issues and has been instrumental in ensuring that Council's priorities reflect the diverse needs of the City's queer communities. Recognizing that the Canadian Gay & Lesbian Archives needed a permanent home, Kyle secured a heritage property on Isabella Street, through a development agreement, for their new home. He has also chaired the City's AIDS Prevention Grant Program since 1991.
Kyle holds Master's degrees in Medieval History and Library Science from the University of Birmingham and University of Toronto respectively. |
