Adam Vaughan was born and raised in Toronto, in arguably one of the most political households in the city. His mother Nettie was a political activist with the Canadian Environmental Law Association and later played a significant role building Ontario's network of community based Legal Aid Clinics. Adam's father Colin Vaughan was a city councilor, journalist, architect and driving force on virtually all important Toronto issues from 1960's to 2000. These included leading the movement to stop the Spadina Expressway, fighting amalgamation and campaigning for public housing
Adam Vaughan's activist and political upbringing led to a career in journalism, seeking action through raising issues that matter to communities. Adam has been working as a broadcast journalist since 1982. His career started at CKLN, a community based radio station at Ryerson Polytechnical University. By 1985, he was managing the station. In 1987 he left CKLN for CityTv to work as a news producer.
In 1989 he returned to community broadcasting-this time to sit on AMARC's Board of Directors (the international association of community-based radio broadcasters). In 1990, he joined CBC Radio's Metro Morning as a segment producer. Adam Vaughan's on air career started in 1993 when he was assigned to cover the municipal election.
In 1995, he switched from radio to television and was assigned full-time to City Hall at CBC. Adam joined CityTv in 2000 following the death of his father, Colin Vaughan, assuming his position as the political affairs reporter. For the last 6 years he has covered municipal, provincial and federal politics. He has also written for Toronto Life, The Toronto Star and Eye Weekly.
Adam and his wife live downtown in the Queen and Bathurst neighbourhood. Adam has two children aged 2 and 8.
