3) Bicycle Friendly Business Awards 2008

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2008 Bicycle Friendly Business Awards.

Consider honouring your local business or organization by nominating them for a 2008 Bicycle Friendly Business Award. When you nominate a cycle friendly business, you're recognizing their efforts to encourage cycling in our city.

Previous award winners have proven their commitment to cycling through a variety of initiatives such as providing secure bike parking, shower and change facilities, and offering economic incentives for employees who cycle to work.

These businesses and organizations demonstrate leadership in encouraging cycling by employees and/or customers.

By supporting this cycling friendly mentality, you will help in creating incentive for other businesses to follow suit.

The 2008 Bicycle Friendly Business Awards will be presented at a special ceremony on Tuesday, January 20 2009, in partnership with the Toronto Cyclists Union.

Nominate a business or organization on-line.

Award categories:

  • Best Bike Parking
  • Bicycle-Friendliest Suburban Business
  • Bicycle Commute
  • Best Small Business (up to 99 employees)
  • Best Large Business (100 employees & over)
  • Best Skills Development
  • Best Overall

The nomination deadline is Monday, December 1, 2008 at 5 p.m.

The Bicycle Friendly Business Awards are presented annually to businesses and organizations across Toronto who are making an effort to encourage their clients and employees to cycle.

The awards recognize that cyclists help in making Toronto a greener and healthier place to live, work, and play.

Cycling conscious businesses help to reduce traffic congestion and smog in our city. All businesses that support cycling help the City to achieve one of the goals of the Toronto Bike Plan to double the number of bicycle trips made in the city by the year 2011.

5) Cyclo-cross Provincial Championships Sunday
November 23 @ Riverdale Park East

On the heels of the successful Toronto International Cyclo-cross Races at Centennial Park November 8-9 (where American National Champion Tim Johnson raced to a brilliant solo victory on the Sunday), comes the Provincial Championships, where riders from across the province will compete for top honours in the valley below Riverdale Farm.

The races should have plenty of action as racers complete against not only each other, but whatever elements Mother nature throws in their way.

As an added bonus, Wellington Brewery will be there with a beer tent that the race course will travel right through!

Races start at 10 a.m. with the elite race going last at 1 p.m. for sixty minutes. To race, pre-register.

To watch, just go to the park, but definitely layer up first.

Sponsored in part by the City of Toronto.
