Welcome to Cyclometer, a monthly newsletter to keep cyclists informed about cycling issues and programs in the City of Toronto. September is upon us and the fine cycling weather continues. Enjoy your riding.

Bicycle Station Open House
The Bicycle Station is please to announce an Open House on Friday, October 2nd to celebrate the fall riding season. From 7 am to 10 am we will be offering fresh pastries as well as hot coffee. Come in for a free bite to eat and learn about Canada's first bicycle station.
There will be announcements about a new parking pilot policy for the Bicycle Station as well as updates on the progress of the Station. It will be a great time to meet fellow members of the cycling community and learn about cycling initiatives that are happening in your neighbourhood. The station's 180 bicycle parking spots and close proximity to TTC, Go Trains, and Via Rail make it a good place to park your bike overnight or during the day. The station includes a change room, a mechanic stand and a variety of tools for customer use as well as a vending machine with emergency bike necessities such as tubes, tire levers, patch kits, and of course, refreshing drinks.
The station is located at 20 York Street in the West York Teamway of Union Station south of Front Street. Enter where Station Street meets York and walk south. Hours are 7am to 7pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. On Thursday we are open from 7am to 12pm. Cycling Homepage Updated
The Cycling website now has a page for current Bikeway Network projects, including a list of projects approved and pending implementation. Bike parking program information has been consolidated, and there is now information available surrounding the debate about bicycle licensing.

Bicycle Parking Zoning By-law Harmonization
There is a proposed change for a harmonized, city-wide, zoning by-law addressing bicycle parking. The proposed new zoning by-law is currently up for public comment.

Natural Environment Trails Program Update

Trail Team
This summer in Crothers Woods please keep an eye open for our Trail Team who will be talking to trail users, collecting data on trail use and asking people to participate in a short survey. Please stop and say hello if you see them and let them know about any issues, concerns or questions you may have about the Natural Environment Trails Program.

Trail Construction 2009
Trail construction is currently underway in Crothers Woods. Improvements completed to date include a new crossing at Redway Rd. and maintenance on 2008's intermediate and advanced sections of trail. Work yet to be completed include the Sun Valley Double Trail, a new intermediate single trail from Pottery Rd and new access trails into Sun Valley from the Loblaws trailhead and from Redway Rd. Further improvements and ecological restoration throughout Crothers Woods to all degraded, eroded and unsafe trails will also be addressed in the upcoming months. New trailheads are also being planned for Beechwood Dr, 91 Bayview Ave, Redway Rd and Pottery Rd. Please respect all trail closures and be aware of construction crews on the trails.

Community Trail Building Day
This year NETP will be hosting a Community Trail Building Day on Saturday October 17th 2009 from 10:00am to 4:00pm in Crothers Woods. The event is for anyone who is interested in sustainable trail building and would like to contribute to the trails in Crothers Woods. The event will be led by staff from the International Mountain Biking Association and NETP with all training and equipment provided.

Many Trails, One Province, One Voice - Shaping Mountain Biking in Ontario
2009 IMBA Canada Provincial Summit - Kitchener, ON - September 25-27, 2009
This September, the International Mountain Bicycling Association (Canada) will host the first-ever Ontario Mountain Bike Summit. Mountain bike clubs, leaders, advocates, and decision makers are invited to attend for three days of networking, trailbuilding, problem solving, education, advocacy, and inspiration.

ZM Oktoberfest Bicycle Races 4 October
Fall is upon us and cyclocross racing returns to the city.
On 4 October, ZM Cycle & Fitness presents a first ever cyclocross race at Wallace Emerson Park on Dufferin Street south of Dupont, next to the BMX park. Races for all categories will go most of the day from 9am, for one hour or less.
