1) Public meeting: West End Bikeways
The City of Toronto and the Toronto Cyclists Union are holding an open house to discuss bikeway projects to be completed in 2009 and 2010 in the downtown west end. These projects have been identified in collaboration with cyclists over the past few months.

2) Toronto Cycling Advisory Committee meeting March 23
The next meeting of TCAC is on Monday, March 23 at 7 p.m. in Committee Room 2 at City Hall,100 Queen St W.
The agenda closing date for this cycling comittee meeting is Thursday, March 12 by 4:30 p.m.
Any items you would wish to have considered for inclusion on the agenda should be submitted before this time. When the agenda is finalized, it
will be posted online.

3) Bike Month event submission deadline: March 27
If you are planning an event for Bike Month, submit it by Friday, March 27 to be included in the Bike Month print calendar. Submission details.
4) Toronto International Bike Show 2009 - March 13 - 15
The annual bike show is almost here. In the CNE's Direct Energy Centre you will find displays from many of Toronto's bike shops and other distributors and well as bmx and freestyle trick riding contests and races. In addition, City of Toronto CAN-BIKE experts will be on site taking questions at their booth, and handing out information about 2009 CAN-BIKE courses. On the weekend, hours are 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. on the Saturday, and a 6 p.m. finish on Sunday. On Friday, March 13 hours are noon - 9 p.m. Entry is $8 for kids (five-twelve years) and senior citizens, and $13 for everyone else. Enter at Hall A.
5) Bikesmart: A Scholarship Helping Students get to Post-Secondary Education
The BikeSmart Scholarship program is aimed at young adults from the City of Toronto who will be receiving their Ontario Secondary School Diploma by the end of the 2008-09 high-school academic year and moving on to a post-secondary program. The program intends to support young adults in their continued education by providing a bike that can be used to get them to and from school. One male and one female applicant will be provided with a cycling package valued at
approximately $1,000:
- A city bike for commuting to school
- A bike bag and a cycling jacket that makes sure they can ride in almost any condition
- A helmet, lock, bell and other accessories
2009 Eligibility:
Applicants must be a student in a City of Toronto high-school who has been accepted into a post-secondary program, including but not limited to university, college, apprenticeship and professional certification/training.
There are two scholarships available in 2009; one for a male application and one for a female applicant.
Applicants must provide proof of acceptance into a post-secondary program commencing September 2009.
For consideration, applicants must submit a 500-word essay explaining how they will use the bike, the role of cycling in promoting healthy lifestyles and how cycling contributes to a liveable city.
Consideration will be given to students between the ages of 17 and 21 with financial need.
Receipt of the scholarship will be based on the merit of the application, and the final decision will be made by a committee of community volunteers.
Completed applications must be received by email or mail post-dated by April 30, 2009 and selection will be completed by June 2009.
