  Annette Street Bike Lane

Annette Street Bike Lanes (Runnymede Road to Jane Street)
In June 2008, City Council approved bike lanes for the section of Annette Street between Runnymede Road and Dundas Street West. The section between Runnymede and Jane Street was further reviewed at public meeting held by Councillor Bill Saundercook on September 15, 2008. The meeting included a presentation by staff on alternatives for providing bike facilities west of Runnymede Road to Jane Street.

Comments received from the public were reviewed by staff and presented to the Public Works and Infrastructure Committee (PWIC) on Friday, October 10. The staff report submitted to the PWIC recommended "Option 1", which is extending the bike lane along Annette between Runnymede and Jane. The report also contained a summary of the feedback received through public consultation.

At its meeting, the PWIC voted 3-2 against Option 1, and recommended:

  1. City Council approve the installation of sharrows on both sides of Annette Street, from Jane Street to Runnymede Road, and that the General Manager, Transportation Services report back in two years' time on the success of the sharrows and any modifications required.

City Council considered the PWIC's recommendations and the staff report at their meeting on Thursday, October 30, 2008. At the meeting, Council voted in support of the staff recommendation for bike lanes along both sides of Annette. The full length of the Annette bike lane, Jane to Dundas West, will be installed when the current road re-surfacing work is complete.
