Westhumber Boulevard Road Repair & Installation of Bike Lanes Public Consultation

This summer the City of Toronto has scheduled road repair of Westhumber Boulevard from Martin Grove Road to Kipling Avenue. As part of this work, bicycle lanes will be installed in both directions, along with new parking spaces and other minor enhancements. No pavement widening will take place.

We invite you to attend a Public Open House to learn more about this project. Drop by to view information displays or speak with project staff. Details are as follows:

Thursday March 25, 2010
7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
West Acres Seniors Centre
65 Hilton Rd.

This project is part of the Etobicoke York District Technical Services 2010 Capital Works program.

New Bike Lanes
Bicycle lanes provide safer cycling opportunities for families. The City's Official Bike Plan includes bicycle lanes on Westhumber Boulevard. These new lanes will eventually connect with proposed bike-ways on Martin Grove Road and on Brookmere Road to Elmhurst Drive.

Changes to Parking
To provide for the new bike lanes, on street parking will no longer be allowed on Westhumber Boulevard. To help compensate for this parking loss, 18 lay-by parking spaces will be constructed in front of Esther Lorrie Park.

In addition, new landscaped median islands will be built at Esther Lorrie Drive.

Construction Details
Westhumber Boulevard will be rehabilitated including:

  • removal (grinding) of existing asphalt pavement,
  • concrete road base repair,
  • storm water catchbasin repair,
  • curb replacement where required,
  • sidewalk replacement where required,
  • end of driveway repair where required, and
  • new asphalt road pavement.

Drainage and alignment improvements may be made where side streets intersect with Westhumber Boulevard.

Disruptions During Construction
In order to complete the road rehabilitation work in a safe manner, it will be necessary to reduce traffic lanes. Access to driveways will be interrupted from time to time during construction. The contractor is obligated to notify residents and businesses of any temporary driveway closures. The City will make arrangements for parking on side streets at times when driveway access has been interrupted.

Before construction starts, a construction notice will be issued detailing which streets are available for parking as well as construction timing and name of the contractor.
