The City of Toronto's first Accessibility Plan, under the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, addresses what the City has done and is doing to identify, remove and prevent barriers to persons with disabilities by assessing its by-laws, policies, programs, practices and services. The City has made great strides in the past and continues to move forward towards the goal of becoming an accessible City.
The City's first Accessibility Plan comprises divisional accessibility plans, which report on current and future strategies to improve accessibility in policy, programs and service delivery. Two key elements of the Accessibility Plan are the completion of Accessibility Design Guidelines and Workplace Accommodation Plan. Toronto City Council approved the Accessibility Plan on September 22, 2003.
