  Walking tours

The Task Force to Bring Back the Don leads interpretive walking tours of the valley in the spring, summer, and fall. Each walk highlights a different aspect of the valley. We will stop at various places in the valley to talk about our successes and the issues that concern us. Each walk lasts about 2 hours.

Pedal the Don
Sunday, May 3, 2009 - 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.

Cycle the length of the connected trail from Sunnybrook to the Waterfront. John Wilson, Chair,Task Force to Bring Back the Don, assisted by the U of T Mountain Biking Team and friends, will lead a bicycle tour, running parallel to the Toronto & Region Conservation Authority's "Paddle the Don" event. This gentle bike hike will stop to view the high-points of Don River restoration, to share stories and to look at how connected and accessible the Don trails are and could become. Cycling is primarily off-road on paved trails, with a short section of residential street cycling, at an easy pace. Meet at south-east corner of Yonge & Lawrence, near library; finish at the Paddle the Don take-out event, Don Roadway & Villiers (near Lake Shore Blvd.), where refreshments will be sold by TRCA.

There are several other groups that host walks and hikes in the area of the Don River:

  • The Bruce Trail Club, Toronto Chapter leads several urban hikes in the Toronto area including the Don Valley. All the hikes are rated as easy. If you are interested in these events, go to their website.

  • Riversides is an organization dedicated to improving water quality in the city. They have a program called "Water in the City Walk". For more information see the website.

  • Check out www.lostrivers.ca. This site lists many walks that trace the routes of buried streams in the Don River watershed.
