Constructing a new building? Want to save money and energy?
We may be able to help.
About the BBP-NC
The Better Buildings Partnership New Construction Program (BBP-NC) goal is to have new buildings designed and built to be more energy efficient than those designed to only meet the minimum requirements of the Ontario Building Code.
Eligible buildings are commercial industrial and multi-unit residential buildings being constructed under Part 3 of the Ontario Building Code.
The BBP-NC has two parts: design assistance and constructed savings.
Why build energy efficient buildings?
A few of the benefits include:
- lower utility bills
- reduced greenhouse gas emisions
- increased resale value
- less strain on our energy supply
Green buildings may also improve indoor air quality that will lead to better health and productivity.
Design Assistance Incentive
- Building owner submits a Design Assistance Application Form to the BBP-NC (PDF 20 Kb). The form can be faxed to 416-392-1456 or submitted by email to jdalzie@toronto.ca
.
- Building design team contracts an engineering firm to perform the energy simulation using program-approved software. A list of design modellers familiar to the City is available.
.
- Energy modeller performs the simulation and submits the report to the building owner and the BBP-NC.
- BBP-NC pays the modeller firm $2,000 + $0.20m2 gross floor area up to a maximum of $7,000
.
Constructed Savings Incentive
- When construction of the building is complete, a Constructed Savings Application Form should be submitted to the BBP-NC by the building owner or designate with an energy modelling report that reflects the energy efficient components that have been incorporated in the building should be submitted to the BBP-NC
.
- Verification- the energy modelling report submitted will be reviewed for completeness. A site visit may also be arranged to verify installations.
.
- If the above is satisfactory, an incentive payment will be sent to the owner. This is calculated on $350 for each peak kW savings or $0.04 per annual kwh reduction that the new building saves compared to what amount of electricity the building would have used if it had been built to meet the basic requirements of the Ontario Building Code
.
