Sustainable Energy Business Plan
As the City's representative with government, stakeholder and non-government organizations on energy issues, the EEO developed and maintains the Sustainable Energy Business Plan for the City of Toronto. As an internal and citywide initiative, this lays the groundwork for strategic planning, co-operation, priority project selection and joint implementation initiatives with all of the parties involved.

Urban Planning
The EEO reviews, advises and advocates on energy efficiency and sustainable development in major urban planning initiatives, including the Official Plan, the Waterfront Plan and the other land use planning initiatives.

Energy Systems Assessment and Technology ReviewEnergy Systems Assessment and Technological Review
The EEO works with many partners to evaluate and design policy proposals on energy systems. The over-arching goal is to optimize resource efficiencies and greenhouse gas emissions reduction. For example, the EEO has been a partner on district energy, distributed energy and co-and tri-generation system planning in the Downtown and the Portlands. Technical feasibility of these proposals is evaluated and system integration has been considered for added efficiency gains and benefits.

Information Clearinghouse and Research Centre
The EEO conducts qualitative and quantitative research on energy and environmental topics and also functions as an information clearinghouse on these issues and the climate change challenge for the City of Toronto. The EEO maintain a current resource centre collection and databases on these subjects to aid in this effort. Topical information is provided to City staff and partner organizations on a consistent basis.

Collaborative Planning and Action
The EEO participates in many environmental energy initiatives by providing expert opinion to workgroups. In the area of atmospheric science and climate change, for example, the EEO has been involved with the Clean Air Partnership, the Smog Summit, Toronto Public Health's 20/20 The Way to Clean Air, and the Urban Heat Island Summit.
