  City Hall Windows Replacement Project
* *

City Hall’s current single-pane windows will be replaced with double-pane windows to help the City reduce energy costs and address health and safety concerns, such as better regulation of temperature and humidity inside the building, and the level of brightness coming from the windows.

Please pay attention to signs posted on the
Podium Roof related to this project.

Why replace City Hall windows?
The windows are more than 45 years old, are not energy efficient, and the gaskets are starting to get brittle. The single pane windows make it difficult to manage the temperature inside the building (i.e. overheating, cooling), which has led to increased operating costs. The new windows will reduce health and safety complaints while addressing issues related to condensation and levels of brightness in workspaces (i.e. glare on computer screens).

The project also includes the installation of a special film on the first three floors above the Podium Roof to make City Hall "bird friendly" as per the City's Bird-Friendly Guidelines for windows.

What is the project timeline?
Window replacement in the East Tower began the week of March 28, 2011, with expected completion at the end of 2011.

Please note, the timelines below are only for the East Tower

Here is a brief timeline for the project. The schedule may change. Check this site regularly for updates.

How / when will the windows be replaced?
The City started the window replacement work in the East Tower the week of March 28, 2011.

Equipment will be set up on the north-west side, street level, of the East Tower and City Hall's Podium Roof to ensure easy replacement of the windows. All the glass from the windows will be recycled.

The work will start at the north end of the East Tower, followed by the south end and the corner windows.
