The Mayors' Megawatt Challenge (MMC) program launched on June 23, 2003. Municipal governments were invited to pool their energy management knowledge and experience to achieve savings of at least one megawatt of electrical demand.
The overall program provides:
benchmarking of similar facilities
plans to reduce energy use and costs by at least five
per cent focusing on low-cost measures that demonstrate quick savings and have short payback
technical training and peer learning workshops to share experiences and best practices
dedicated web page with utility information, reports, progress indicators, etc.
co-ordination of retrofit projects including access to fundingfrom the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and other sources
