COOL IT, POWER IT, GROW IT
- The greening of Toronto City Hall

On Tuesday April 21st, 2009, Mayor David Miller officially launched the greening of Toronto City Hall.

To COOL IT, City of Toronto has installed a cooling system at City Hall with Enwave’s Deep Lake Water Cooling (DLWC) to displace conventional electricity. To find out more about how the City is "COOLING IT" read the Eco-Kids Fun Fact Sheet or visit enwave.com

To POWER IT, City Hall and Nathan Phillips Square are now green powered by the purchase of low-impact, emissions-free electricity from Bullfrog Power. To find out more about how we POWER IT visit bullfrogpower.com

To GROW IT, construction on a new Green Podium Roof at City Hall has begun. The green podium roof will be Toronto's largest, publicly accessible green roof. It will be a new urban oasis in the heart of the city. Read more about the Green Podium Roof.

Deep Lake Water Cooling
In June 2006, Metro Hall (55 John St.) was the first Toronto municipal facility to be added to Enwave's Deep Lake Water Cooling (DLWC) system. City Hall (100 Queen St. W.) and Police Headquarters (40 College St.) were connected in 2008. Construction has started to add Old City Hall (60 Queen St. W.) to DWLC by 2010. For more information, see the DLWC Case Study or visit enwave.com.

Energy Retrofit Program Benefits City Buildings
City buildings benefit from the City's Energy Retrofit Program (ERP). Since 2004, the EWMO has project managed energy upgrades in more than 200 City buildings as part of the Energy Retrofit Program (ERP).

The ERP is financed with $35 million which includes $8.75 million from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. Read more about Energy Retrofits.

Energy Efficiency Guidelines
These guidelines provide direction, information and/or minimum requirements in the upgrading of existing buildings to achieve optimum energy efficiency without reducing the building's performance or occupants' comfort.
