Winner of Junior Fire Chief's Contest

Kayla N. was the 2008 winner of our Fire Prevention Week Junior Fire Chief's contest. Kayla's winning ballot was drawn from hundreds of children's ballots entered during Toronto's Fire Prevention Week contest. The contest required children to assess home fire safety hazards with a contest checklist, and then along with a parent, to correct any problems. As an added bonus, Kayla's entry provided a 'home escape plan' showing the layout of her home, and the possible exits she and her family could use in the event of a home fire.

As a Junior Fire Chief, Kayla was taken for a ride throughout her community in a frontline fire truck. Afterwards, back at Station 345 she was presented with her prizes, which included a tour of the station and apparatus, as well as:

  • a Duracell Junior Fire Chiefs Turnout Gear
  • a Futurnova MP3 Player
  • Sparky the Fire Dog Wrist Watch
  • Sparky Smoke Alarm and Duracell Batteries
  • Official CAFC 100th Anniversary Chief's Certificate
