The Toronto
Fire Services Pipes and Drums was established in 1998. The band
was conceived by firefighter Andrew Cunningham as a traditional
means of representing our department. The band comprises mostly
of Toronto firefighters from all divisions who proudly wear the
Toronto Fire Services Tartan.

We attend department funerals, recruit graduations, promotional presentations, award and merit ceremonies and any other fire fighting related function. We also participate in parades and community events within and outside of our community.

Holland 2010
In May of 2010, the Toronto Fire Services Pipes & Drums will be travelling to Holland. Their mission will be to help celebrate the observance of the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the Nederlands from Nazi occupation during World War II.
Near the end of World War II, allied forces including Canada helped liberate Holland from Nazi occupation. This crucial victory over Nazi occupation sparked the defeat of the Nazis in Europe and ultimately bringing the end to World War II.
For 10 days the TFS Pipe Band will be participating in many events including celebrations hosted by the Dutch Royal Family, parades, visitations to Canadian & allied grave sites, and memorials at the actual battle grounds where Canadian soldiers fought and where many paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect freedom.
To help make this historical trip a reality, the TFS Pipes & Drums will be hosting a fundraising evening on November 27 at the Maple Leaf House Grill & Bar 2749 Lake Shore Blvd West (PDF). The evening includes a variety of live entertainment including a performance by the Toronto Fire Services Pipes and Drums.
Hope to see you there!
Tartan
Toronto
Fire Services Pipes and Drums proudly wear the Toronto Fire Services
Tartan. This tartan is made by Lochcarron of Scotland specifically
for the Toronto Fire Services and is officially registered as Toronto
Fire Services Tartan, registration #003044 in the International
Tartan Index with the Scottish Tartans Authority in Scotland.
Tartan
History*
In October 1999, the band pursued acquiring its own unique tartan. This was accomplished in less than six weeks. Designed by Mr. Antony Cunningham of Toronto, and facilitated by Margaret Struth and Carol Graham at Burnett's & Struth, and with advice from Senior Staff and band members, the tartan combines various colours with a unique symbolism specific to Toronto Fire Services.
- Red suggests fire
- Blue suggests both Fire Fighters and water
- White represents senior officers, and the light which finds its way
through the smoke
- Gold represents Staff Officers and ties in with the gold of TFS shoulder
flash
- Black found between the white and flanking the gold represents our fallen
comrades.
