| The City of Toronto is committed to lowering emissions of greenhouse gases by 6% below 2009 levels by 2012, and lowering emissions of smog-causing pollutants by 20% below 2004 levels by 2012. Fleet Services is greening the City's vehicles, fuels and fleet activities to help meet these targets. |

Green Fleet initiatives
- Toronto’s green fleet initiatives are described in the Green Fleet Plan 2008-2011. The plan outlines Toronto’s current and future activities to green our corporate vehicle fleet and reduce our impact on the environment. The Green Fleet Transition Plan 2004-2007 describes our earlier efforts to green the fleet.
- Toronto Fleet Services is always learning about, testing and demonstrating promising new vehicles and technologies. We have a wide variety of green vehicles today, and the list is growing.
- Toronto is currently using a variety of alternative fuels in an effort to reduce fossil fuel consumption and pollutant emissions.
- The Idle-Free program is a driver-education program, which encourages City of Toronto staff to reduce unnecessary idling, fuel use and pollutant emissions.
- The Green Fleet Expo (GFX) is an annual event hosted by the City of Toronto, City of Hamilton and other partners. At the GFX fleet managers have the chance to test drive green vehicles and learn about new and emerging technologies.
- Toronto Fleet Services regularly shares information with other fleets and partners including the Clinton Climate Initiative and the Canadian Association of Municipal Fleet Managers (CAMFM). Through these linkages Toronto can learn successful new approaches, encourage other fleets to green their operations, and enjoy bulk buying discounts.
