How do I become an Ambassador?

What if I don’t live in an apartment building or a condominium?

The program is aimed at people living in apartments, condominiums and cooperatives. If you do not live in this type of housing, please contact the Program Coordinator.

What if I can’t commit to two days of training?

Training is a mandatory component of the 3Rs Ambassadors Volunteer Program. If you are unable to attend the entire training session, please contact the Program Coordinator.

Is there a cost to sign up or doing the program in my building?

There is no cost to you or your building manager for signing up for this program. The training sessions are free and the City will provide you with materials for your outreach and education campaign.

Do I need approval from my building manager?

Yes. Your building manager should be made aware of and in agreement with the program because you may require his or her assistance in delivering the education/outreach program.

What if there is more than one 3Rs Ambassador Volunteer in my building?

If there are more than one 3Rs Ambassador Volunteer in your building, you can work together as a team to plan and organize larger events, such as a book and clothing drive, or an annual litter-less potluck picnic.

Is the recruitment information session mandatory?

No, attendance at the recruitment information session is not mandatory. The recruitment session is an opportunity to learn more about the program and to ask questions. Only the two day training sessions are mandatory. If you cannot attend the information session, please contact the Program Coordinator prior to the training sessions to learn more about the program.

Are there a minimum number of hours that I have to volunteer?

There is no minimum number of hours required, but the recommended number of hours per month is 10 and the number of hours per week is flexible.

What sort of support and resources can I expect from City staff?

  • You will receive training on effective communication, which will help you deliver your education and outreach campaign.
  • Receive information and be updated on the City’s reduce, reuse and recycling programs.
  • Regular update training sessions and opportunities to meet other 3Rs Ambassadors to discuss best practices.
  • Solid Waste literature, posters, and stickers to put up in you building and help you educate your neighbours.
  • A limited number of promotional items will be provided (at no cost) and can be used as prize incentives to encourage residents in your building to participate in the 3Rs.
  • City staff will be available after regular work hours should you require any assistance in your education campaign or if you have any questions or concerns about the program.
