No free Garbage Bag Tags in 2012
Your allotment of free City-issued garbage bag tags expired on December 31, 2011 (overflow garbage bags with expired tags will not be picked up). Council decided, when approving the 2012 Solid Waste Management Services' operating/capital budget in November 2011, to discontinue distribution of free City-issued garbage bag tags to residential curbside customers. It is now the responsibility of residents to pay for each Garbage Bag Tag required to ensure any overflow garbage bags are collected. Please make sure your overflow garbage has a valid tag attached to it and that the tag is easily visible to collection crews.
Residential garbage bag tags and commercial yellow garbage bags are sold at Toronto Canadian Tire stores. Residential tags cost $3.10 each. Commercial yellow garbage bags are sold in a package of five for $15.50.
Residential cooking oil now accepted at Drop-off Depots
Cooking oil - from residential homes, apartments and condos - is accepted as household hazardous waste at Drop-off Depots. (Please note the drop-off hours for household hazardous waste are different from the general operating hours.)
Cooking oil should delivered in a sealed container labelled "Used cooking oil."
Cooking oil should never be poured down the sink, drain or toilet because it can negatively impact sewer pipes systems in your home and neighbourhood, causing sewer backups. Small amounts can go in the Green Bin if soaked up with a paper towel or frozen/hardened.

To help property owners better understand the recently approved 2011 residential solid waste management rates effective March 1, 2011, we have created a question and answer document (PDF) that explains details about the rate affecting households that receive City curbside collection and rate information pertaining to owners of multi-unit buildings (apartments/condos) on either bulk or static collection.
