The following photographs were taken at the fifth annual Green Toronto Awards reception and ceremony, held at the Direct Energy Centre on April 23, 2009. Award recipients, sponsors, judges and members of the public filled Heritage Court for the occasion.

Award Presentations
Each of the winners received a prestigious Green Toronto Award and a $5,000 donation to a registered charity of their choice. All finalists received an Environmental Award of Excellence.
The awards were hosted by Mayor David Miller, Deputy Mayor Joe Pantalone, environmentalist and actor Ed Begley, Jr. The sponsor for the award category presented the Awards of Excellence to the finalists and the Green Toronto Award to the winner.
Community Projects Award
Inge van den Berg, of sponsor Loblaw Companies Limited, with Mayor David Miller, Deputy Mayor Joe Pantalone, and Ed Begley Jr., present Award of Excellence plaques to the two finalists and the Green Toronto Award to the winner in the Community Projects category.

Accepting the framed certificates are Harun Younnissi for Greenest City, Roscoe Handford and Laura Reinsborough from Not Far From The Tree.

Energy Conservation Award
Colin Andersen, of sponsor Ontario Power Authority, with Mayor David Miller, Deputy Mayor Joe Pantalone, and Ed Begley Jr., present Award of Excellence plaques to the two finalists and the Green Toronto Award to the winner in the Energy Conservation category.

Accepting the framed certificates are Sybil Taylor from Steam Whistling Brewing, Stuart Bowden from SAS Canada and Arunas Pleckaitis from Enbridge Gas Distribution.

Environmental Awareness Award

Green Design Award

Green Roof Award

Leadership Award

Market Transformation Award

Water Efficiency Award

Youth Award

Accepting the framed certificates are Matthew Lloyd and Arielle Rosen from the Ban the Bag Brigade at The York School, Jessica Vuong from the Bethune Environmental Action Team (B.E.A.T.) at Dr. Norman Bethune C.I. and Aroona Shahid from Kipling C.I.’s EcoTeam.

Bob Hunter Environmental Achievement Award
Mayor David Miller, Deputy Mayor Joe Pantalone, and Ed Begley Jr., present Award of Excellence plaques to the two finalists and the Green Toronto Award to the winner in the Bob Hunter Environmental Achievement Award category.

Accepting the framed certificates are Pamela Georgopoulos from Toronto Water, Monica Campbell from Toronto Public Health and Janice Etter from the Toronto Policy Food Council.

Winner of the Green Toronto Award is the Toronto Policy Food Council, represented by Janice Etter.

GreenScenez Toronto - Youth Video Challenge Presentations
Winners of the GreenScenez Toronto were also recognized on stage and presented with a certificate. Winning teams of elementary and secondary students attended a workshop at Planet in Focus during March Break 2009 and got the chance to turn their great green ideas into videos. The winning videos were premiered at the Green Toronto Awards ceremony.
