  Design Finalists: Harbourfront Parks and Open Space System Phase I

The Phase I development of the Harbourfront Parks and Opens Space system will focus on two key parcels of parkland, that will serve to connect Harbourfront Centre with the Spadina Quay Wetland and Toronto's Music Garden. The first phase sites, Maple Leaf Quay West and Maple Leaf Quay East, are south of Queen's Quay Boulevard and measure approximately 1.7 hectares (4.2 acres). Construction and development is expected to start in 2004 with completion scheduled for 2005. The cost of implementing the Phase I park development is expected to be $7.5 million.

The three teams selected to present their design concepts are:

  • Janet Rosenberg & Associates, Landscape Architects Inc. (Toronto) / Claude Cormier Architectes Paysagistes Inc. (Montreal) with:
    • Hariri Pontarini Architects (Toronto)
    • Allen Kani Associates (Environmental Engineering - Toronto)
    • Beth Kapusta (Communications Consultant - Toronto)
    • William Greer (Heritage Advisor - Toronto)
    • Rina Greer (Public Art Consultant - Toronto)

  • Phillips Farevaag Smallenberg (Planning, Urban Design & Landscape Architecture, Vancouver) with:
    • The Fleisher Ridout Partnership Inc. (Landscape Architects - Toronto)
    • Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg Architects (Toronto)
    • Julian Smith & Associates (Architecture & Culture Resource Management Planning - Ottawa)

  • Ian Gray & Associates (Landscape Architects - Toronto) with:
    • Gustafson Guthrie Nichol Ltd. (Landscape Architects - Seattle)
    • Weissbau (Urban Design Consultant - Toronto)
    • Waldheim Architecture (Landscape Urbanism Consultant - Chicago)
