What we know about breast cancer
  • Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer for Ontario women
  • One in nine women in Ontario will develop breast cancer in her lifetime
  • The chance of getting breast cancer increases with age, especially after 50
  • A healthy lifestyle can lower your risk of getting breast cancer
  • The number of women surviving breast cancer is increasing

Breast screening
It is recommended that all women participate in breast screening.
  • Breast screening is the regular examination of a woman's breasts when there are no signs or symptoms of breast problems
  • Breast screening is done to find breast cancer at an early stage
  • When breast cancer is found early and treated, there is a good chance of survival
  • Breast screening saves lives

Breast screening includes:
  1. Mammogram
  2. Clinical breast exam

Be breast aware
Women of all ages:
  1. Get to know how your breasts usually look and feel
  2. Know what changes to look and feel for
  3. Look and feel for changes
  4. Report any changes to your doctor or nurse
What puts you at risk?
Being a woman and being age 50 or over increases your chance of developing breast cancer.
