Communicable Disease Control - Programs
CDC programs
The goal of the Communicable Disease Control (CDC) directorate is to minimize morbidity and mortality amongst the population, through the use of our prevention, control, and monitoring programs. The CDC directorate is comprised of the following programs in order to meet the provincial Mandatory Health Programs and Services Guidelines.

AIDS & Sexual Health Info Line
The AIDS & Sexual Health Info line provides anonymous counselling, referrals and information to residents of Toronto and across Ontario on HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections and issues related to sexual health and harm reduction in relation to drug use. More.

Communicable Disease Liaison Unit (CDLU)
The CDLU is a centralized service that works collaboratively with hospitals to promote communicable disease prevention and control issues.

Communicable Disease Surveillance Unit (CDSU)
The Communicable Disease Surveillance Unit is responsible for monitoring communicable diseases in Toronto. Through the publication of our weekly, monthly, and annual reports, healthcare professionals and the public are provided with vital disease trend statistics. More.

Control of Infectious Diseases/Infection Control (CID/IC)

The Control of Infectious Diseases and Infection Control program helps assess the risk of the population exposed to a communicable disease, provide outbreak management, and advise community stakeholders on strategies to reduce the risk of further disease spread.

Needle Exchange (The Works)
The Works is the City of Toronto needle exchange program designed to reduce the harms associated with drug use. A full range of harm reduction services are offered, including the distribution of safer drug use supplies, provision of low threshold methadone maintenance, education, support, testing and vaccination and counselling. Pandemic Influenza Planning and Preparedness Team
The Pandemic Influenza Unit is involved with the planning, preparedness and response in the event of a pandemic influenza outbreak in Toronto. More.

Quality Assurance
The Quality Assurance team supports quality in CDC through the provision of consultative services to all CDC programs. The team promotes integrated approaches in three priority areas: orientation, mentorship, training and development; policy document development and maintenance and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Sexual Health Clinics
The Sexual Health Clinic program is run by or affiliated with Toronto Public Health, and provides accessible sexual health services to all women under 25 and all men under 30. More.

Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI)
The Sexually Transmitted Infections program is responsible for the management of all reports of STIs (including HIV/AIDS) to ensure treatment, counselling, partner notification, and education on STIs to health care professionals in the community. More.

Tuberculosis (TB) Prevention and Control Program
The Tuberculosis Prevention and Control program works together with healthcare professionals and the public to prevent, control, and reduce tuberculosis in Toronto. More.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD)
The Vaccine Preventable Diseases works with the community in Toronto to promote immunization for everyone, and to reduce illness and death from vaccine preventable diseases.
