Our Mandate:
The Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) Program at Toronto Public Health is responsible for the management all reports of STI (including HIV/AIDS) in the City of Toronto to ensure treatment, counselling and partner notification. The program also collects and monitors epidemiological data on STI and provides education on STI to health care professionals in the community.
Through the Sexual Health Coordinating Committee, the STI Program collaborates with other TPH Sexual Health Programs to promote and protect sexual health in Toronto. We are guided by the Sexual Health Program Philosophy and Guiding Principles. The program also networks with provincial and federal groups related to STI and sexual health.
Our Services:
- Provision of free medications to physicians in the community for the treatment of patients with STI's
- Partner notification of persons potentially exposed to an STI
- Counselling of patients with an STI (including HIV) to ensure treatment, follow-up and appropriate referral
- Assisting with staffing of Toronto Public Health Sexual Health clinics and partnership clinics
- Education and support to health care professionals in the community regarding STI and HIV
- Condom and information resource distribution
- Collaboration with community agencies, provincial and federal groups regarding STI prevention and treatment, and sexual health promotion.
