What a child learns before age 6 lasts forever
A child's early years before age six are when they do their most important learning. In fact, by the time children enter school, most of their basic learning skills will already be in place. That's why it's so important for parents and caregivers to do everything they can to encourage a child's development during these early years. |
Things you can do now
There are things you can do now to help give your children the best possible start in life. Healthy food is essential to a young child's growing body, even before they are born.
Being comforted, played with, held and encouraged, is equally important to a young child's growing mind. How you care for your children in their early years will have a lasting impact on the kind of adults they will become.
What do children need?
What do children need? They need to be comforted and feel safe, especially when they are sick, tired, upset or hurt.
They need to play and explore their world. They need people to teach them how to think, solve problems and communicate.
Children also need parents or caregivers to help them get along with others and learn right from wrong.
