Build on Your Strengths workshop
The Toronto Drug Strategy Prevention Working Group held a free workshop for frontline service providers in January 2010 on how to use a strengths-based approach to promote resiliency in youth. This popular workshop included a panel discussion with speakers from Parent Action on Drugs, The Students Commission, and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). Presenters spoke about resiliency models and how they are used in the delivery of programs for youth, their families and peers, and communities. The main focus of the workshop was facilitated small group discussions where participants shared and learned skills and strategies for using a strengths-based approach in their work. The Regent Park FOCUS Youth Media Arts Centre produced a short video for the workshop of youth speaking out about what has helped them to be resilient. Please e-mail the Toronto Drug Strategy if you are interested in future workshops.
