About Eat Smart!

Eat Smart! is a multi-component nutrition promotion program for workplaces and post-secondary schools in Toronto. The program is centered upon an "Award of Excellence" for cafeterias that meet high standards in nutrition, food safety and smoke free dining.

Eat Smart! Workplace Program

The Eat Smart! Workplace Program is now a multiple level award program that includes Bronze, Silver and Gold levels. See details on how to qualify.

Interested post-secondary school cafeterias in Toronto are eligible to participate under the Eat Smart! Workplace program. For a list of current Eat Smart! workplace and post-secondary school cafeterias, visit Eat Smart! Ontario.

Eat Smart! School Program

(Elementary and Secondary School Cafeterias)

Toronto Public Health will not be supporting the Eat Smart! School program during the 2011/2012 school year. The Ministry of Education has established a School Food and Beverage policy which was to be implemented on September 1, 2011. The provincial Nutrition Resource Centre has placed the Eat Smart! Healthy School Program on hiatus for the 2011/2012 school year.

This will enable schools to focus on implementing the mandatory School Food and Beverage Policy (PPM 150). Toronto Public Health is available to support PPM 150, and assist schools with the implementation of the policy. There are awareness-raising and skill-building activities related to nutrition and healthy eating available for schools.
