Helping communities cope during crisis
Emergencies and crises can happen at any time. Toronto Public Health helps people and communities cope with stress, trauma and death.

Toronto Public Health has specially trained staff
During an emergency people may have to cope with physical injury, emotional and mental stress, or property damage. They may feel overwhelmed or not safe.

When that happens, Toronto Public Health's Community Crisis Support Team (CCST) can help.

Specially trained public health and mental health nurses, and other Public Health staff, provide counselling to individuals and communities who have been involved in traumatic events.

What's a traumatic incident?
A traumatic or critical incident is something that is sudden, overwhelming and often dangerous, where people feel they can not cope. These can be things like:
  • Sudden or unexpected death
  • Threat or experience of violence
  • Robbery
  • Bomb scare
  • Fire
  • Kidnapping or missing child
  • Natural or man-made disaster
Who to call
To reach CCST call Toronto Health Connection at 416-338-7600 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The service is free and confidential.

For an emergency call 911.
