Noise surrounds us everyday. The sounds of daily living such as traffic, airplanes, construction and garden equipment bombard us. Noise is an unwanted sound. Sound levels are measured in decibels (dBA). The higher the decibel level above what is considered safe and the longer the time exposed to the noise, the more likely it will harm your health.

The City's Municipal Licensing & Standards (MLS) Division is responsible for enforcing the noise by-law. If you have a complaint regarding noise in your area or questions about the noise by-law and what it covers, please call 311.
Read Toronto Public Health's reports on the health effects of noise.
