What is RRFSS?
The Rapid Risk Factor Surveillance System (RRFSS) is an on-going telephone survey occurring in public health regions across Ontario. RRFSS provides timely data that are relevant to local public health needs. It is used to monitor key public health issues and can be adapted to collect information on emerging issues.
Background
Each month a random sample of about 100 Toronto residents aged 18 years and older is interviewed regarding risk behaviours, knowledge, attitudes and awareness of health related topics that are important to public health. Toronto has participated in RRFSS since July 2001 and data has been collected on a variety of topics including:
- Alcohol
- Tobacco
- Cancer
- Other chronic disease
- Nutrition & Body Mass Index
- Physical activity
- Sun safety
- Women's health
- Dental health
- Immunization (flu, tetanus, pneumonia)
- Injury
- West Nile Virus
- Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)
The full list of survey questions available for RRFSS, along with other background information, can be found at the external RRFSS web site.
