  Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination Program

The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is safe and it works!

HPV vaccine prevents the majority of precancerous lesions, cervical cancers and genital warts caused by the most common strains of HPV.

Three doses of vaccine are needed for full protection.  Recent studies confirm the vaccine is safe.  Very few reactions to the vaccine have been reported in Toronto and across Canada; most were mild and consisted of redness and swelling where the vaccine was given.

HPV vaccine clinics
Toronto Public Health is offering females in Grade 8 free HPV vaccine through school-based clinics.

Girls now in Grade 9, who received at least one HPV shot before September, may complete the remaining doses while in Grade 9 through our community immunization clinics.

For more information call the Immunization Information Line at 416-392-1250.

A parent or guardian must sign a consent form (PDF) to have their daughter vaccinated. The form should be returned promptly to the child’s school before the date of the vaccination clinic.
